TOL - Shaving & Fall

Fall can be a wonderful season. In years past, it seems like we skipped Fall, going straight from Summer to Winter snow. But this year ... it's Autumn, and it's nice! Leaves are changing colors, the days are getting shorter and the cooler weather has come.

We had our first cool down a few weeks ago. We pulled out our hot chocolate maker, but have yet to turn on the heat. I enjoy opening the windows and letting the fresh air in. As the first "official" day of Fall hit, I noticed the comic above come across my Facebook feed and couldn't help but laugh. I HAD started wearing the long workout wear instead of my usual shorts of summer and had wondered if I could get away with skipping a shaving session or two.  As I was looking for the illustration above to use here in my post, I found a few others along the same lines ...

I don't think I'll ever give up shaving for any real length of time ... but I do get a little laid back when the legs aren't actually on display during the day. My jammies are still short though ... and hubs likes the smooth legs, so I will keep on shaving. Especially if I'm anticipating any action *Ü*

My oldest son even brought up shaving the other day. He finds shaving his face a huge pain and commented "I don't know how you women do it, legs have to be hard!" I actually don't think they are that bad ... although sometimes I do see stray hairs missed around the knees. Knees are hard!

Hubs will sometimes go a few days without shaving. I don't really mind. I like the look of a little stubble. It's manly. But just a couple days ... then it gets too bushy. It's almost strange to go back to the baby soft skin of a freshly shaved face after having the stubble there.  I do start to tease Hubs a bit when the hair on his face is longer than the hair on his head (and that only takes a few days to do!)

So ... that's my Thinking Out Loud for today.
What are your thoughts about shaving?

Wii Fit Funnies

My home gym has an elliptical, a treadmill, a stationary bike, weights ... and a Wii. The Wii isn't a huge part of my exercise routine, but I do try to get in a little WiiFit here and there.  And as I've discovered Zumba, I've given the WiiZumba a try too.

A little funny/fail from the other day ... I was dancing along when the song ended. I needed the Wii remote to move through the options, the next song ... I looked all around. I could NOT find the remote. I seriously searched for about 10 minutes.

It was in the Zumba belt.
The belt I was wearing on my waist.
Duh. But I had to laugh ...

I also laughed when my son shared this YouTube video with me ...

A trailer for the new Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
The Wii Fit Trainer joins the battle.
Pretty funny!

Do you WiiFit?

Linking up with the HumpDayBlogHop ... and FitFoodieRuns (which also features the hump day camel this week. BTW, the commercial?  My boys think that it is HILARIOUS and love to repeat it every Wednesday!) Also check out the WorkOutWednesday and WeighInWednesday linkups...

... check back on Friday for my official weigh-in (fair warning, it is NOT looking good this week after Easter indulgences) ... sometimes I wait until Friday to link up with Ashley, but at the end of that little video, it says "Wii Fit Trainer Weighs In" ... so I thought today was appropriate after all *Ü*

Pinette. Funny & Farewell

Have you heard of the comedian John Pinette? I was sad on Sunday when I heard the news that he had been found dead in his hotel room on Saturday. He had always struggled with weight, health problems, and as many celebrities do, other demons (drug issues I believe). As far as making us laugh though, he was a family favorite. Pretty clean... enough that I'd let my teenagers listen to his stuff. Because of his size, many of his bits focused on food and fitness. In memory of John Pinette, I thought I'd share a few of our favorite funnies.

In this clip he talks about going to the gym. His trainer tells him to do a sit up.
He says "I don't do ups. Ups defy gravity. Gravity is a law. I obey the law."
Lots of funny stuff.

Here he talks about going to see a nutritionist (or two, or three),
and attempting to follow their directives.

Here's a quick look at going gluten-free (not by choice).
Celiacs runs in our family, so this hits home.

RIP John Pinette.
Thank you for making us laugh.

Burn 800 Calories In Just 30 Minutes!

Welcome to the second installment of Sunday Fitness Funnies. Here's a calorie burn claim that sounds a bit inflated ... but you know, it's true! Anyone can do it too. *Ü*  I am always suspicious of claims of large calorie burns. In my limited experience trying to get an accurate count (Exercise Estimates) I can see how widely varied the different estimates can be. I do try to err on the side of caution and take the lowest calculation.

... and back to the picture posted above ...
I did overcook a waffle this morning.
I toasted 300+ calories in just over 5 minutes!

We have belgian waffles every Sunday. We call them "Sunday Circles".  Alas, I wasn't watching the "done" light closely enough and this poor waffle got toasted and no one wanted it. I certainly didn't. If I'm going to indulge in 300+ calories, I want it to be perfect and yummy. I don't like waste ... but it's better to waste the waffle than eat something just to avoid waste. I'll just try to keep a better eye on my cooking!

Hope this edition of Sunday Fitness Funnies could make you smile today.
Go burn some calories the right way!

Thou Shalt Not ...

Happy Sunday. Growing up, a fond Sunday memory was grabbing the comics section of the newspaper. I loved Calvin and Hobbes ... I just ordered the complete collection and hope to introduce it to my boys. Laughter is such an important part of life. Even though our health is something to take seriously, I think we can take some time to laugh a little too.  I thought I'd start posting some Sunday Food and Fitness Funnies each week. I had already started collecting some, and I'll actively be keeping my eyes open for items that make me smile.

I think the low-carb craze has passed ... I never jumped on that bandwagon anyway!
